Come to Our Wonderful Spring Fair!

Tet is coming! To get ready for this special holiday, our town will have a Spring Fair. The event will open next Sunday at Central Park from 8:00 a.m. (1) ______ 5:00 p.m. There will be many fun activities for everyone:

Before Tet, my family often (1) ______ together to make "chung" cakes. It is a special Vietnamese cake with sticky rice, green beans and meat. My job is to (2) ______ the big, green leaves under running water. My father and mother put all the ingredients into the leaves and wrap the cakes. Then, we boil the cakes for (3) ______ hours. We tell stories and laugh a lot when we work. Being with my family makes me (4) ______. When the cakes are ready, their green color is beautiful. (5) ______ Tet morning, we enjoy the cakes together and wish each other a happy new year. I really love this moment.

1. Tet, the Vietnamese Lunar New Year, is the most important holiday in Vietnam. People all over Vietnam celebrate Tet, but they have some different traditions.

2. In the North, families make “banh chung” and put peach blossoms in their homes. They enjoy cold weather and drink hot tea. In the Central, people prepare “banh tet”. It is like "banh chung", but the shape is long. They do not eat shrimp because they think it brings bad luck. In the South, the weather is warm, around 25-30°C. People like apricot blossoms. They are yellow and bright.

3. However, there are still many similar traditions in all areas. Everywhere, children receive lucky money in red envelopes, called "li xi". People visit their relatives and go to pagodas to pray for luck. They also eat traditional food and spend time with family. Tet is a special time of the year.
